Buyer sought for Opperman Plants

Family run plant nursery, Opperman Plants, has sadly fallen into administration after almost 3 decades in business.

The administration process was formally entered into on 13th April, with Nathan Jones and John Lowe of FRP Advisory Trading Limited are acting on behalf of the company.

Located in Spalding, Lincolnshire, Opperman Plants supplied many wholesalers and retail businesses across the UK with ornamental plants.

Opperman produced up to 8 million plants a year for major supermarket chains including Morrisons, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s, using ‘innovative growing techniques’. Morrisons bought up to 85% of Opperman’s plant stock, amounting to a third of the supermarket’s horticultural offering.

Founded in 1997 by Mike and Jenny Opperman, it is thought that the business failed due to serious pressure from soaring operating costs. This follows a £250,000 investment that the firm secured in 2020, before financial hurdles were raised in recent years.

The administrators are attempting to sell the business as a going concern, with the primary objective of securing a future for the company and its 47 employees.
